Why TBC Bank in Georgia is crypto-positive — and how to actually move crypto in and out

Most banks in Europe still treat crypto like a character flaw. A SEPA transfer that smells of Binance is enough to trigger a compliance review. One “unusual” incoming wire and you’re writing a three-page explanation to a risk team that has already made up its mind. Accounts get frozen. Cards stop working. And the bank’s official position is always the same: we can’t discuss individual cases.

Georgia took a different approach. Since January 2023, the National Bank of Georgia licenses crypto exchanges under a proper VASP framework with real AML rules attached. When money moves from one of those licensed exchanges into your Georgian bank account, the source is documented, onshore, and supervised. The bank knows exactly what it’s looking at. There’s nothing to flag.

TBC Bank — one of Georgia’s two main banks — built its policies around that reality. Crypto isn’t a forbidden activity. Incoming transfers from Georgian licensed exchanges are treated as regulated counterparties, not suspicious strangers.

That’s the entire reason we route our clients’ crypto-to-fiat flows through TBC and open the account for them remotely. Not because it’s exotic or clever — because it simply works, in a way that European banking stopped working for a lot of people.

How it works in practice — three things that make Georgia different:

  • Crypto is not a forbidden activity. Georgian law treats it like any other asset or currency exchange.
  • Georgian licensed exchanges, including Bitnet and Cryptal, integrate directly with TBC. GEL, USD, and EUR land in your IBAN in minutes.
  • Incoming SEPA from those exchanges hits your account without friction. The bank treats them as regulated counterparties, not random third parties.

The combination of national regulation and bank-level pragmatism is what makes the TBC Concept account worth having: a normal, premium bank that doesn’t punish you for owning Bitcoin.

How to actually move money in and out: Georgian bank account to Georgian crypto exchange

Three routes, ordered from most private to least private.

1. Liberation.Travel private Signal P2P trading group — no KYC, clients only

Every client who opens a TBC account through us gets access. It’s a closed group: no public sign-ups, no random counterparties. Everyone in it has gone through our onboarding and has a real Georgian bank account behind their name. You trade peer-to-peer in EUR, USD, or GEL at negotiated rates, and spreads are typically tighter than any retail exchange because both sides skip the exchange fee entirely. If privacy is your priority, this is where you start.

2. Bitnet — KYC required, fastest fully-automated route with the lowest fees

The second route is Bitnet (app.bitnet.ge — register here), a Georgian-licensed exchange and our primary recommendation for anyone who wants a fully automated on/off-ramp. You KYC once (passport scan, selfie, and a few quick questions), and after that the whole thing is self-serve.

Our colleague Samuela Davidová sat down with Giorgi, CMO of Bitnet, to walk through how the platform works, what makes a Georgian VASP different from a foreign exchange, and how Bitnet handles AML, large trades, and TBC settlement in practice:

Convert USDT to USD or GEL on the platform, hit send, and the money is in your TBC account in under three minutes. The fee is a flat 0.5% on USDT/USD pairs, regardless of amount. USDT on Tron or Solana are the cheapest rails. You can choose USD, EUR, GBP, or GEL, depending on which TBC sub-account you want it in.

For amounts above roughly $50,000, send a short note to Bitnet’s support before you transfer and pre-clear the size and source. It’s the difference between a three-minute settlement and a two-week AML hold. Their team replies fast.

3. Cryptal — KYC required, the alternative

The third route is Cryptal (cryptal.com — register here), the other Georgian-licensed exchange. Expect the same process: KYC once, direct TBC integration, crypto to your IBAN in minutes. A solid backup if you want a second exchange, or simply prefer their interface. Most of our clients keep accounts on both and use whichever has the better rate at a given moment.

For larger amounts on Cryptal, we give clients a direct Signal contact to negotiate their rate — something we set up through our own relationship with their team.

What will actually get your account closed

Through our direct relationships with the C-level teams at both exchanges, we know exactly which patterns trigger red flags, and why:

  • Do not send a P2P transfer from Binance, Bybit, or any international exchange directly to your TBC IBAN. P2P means a stranger you’ve never met wires GEL or USD into your account. The bank has no idea who that person is. The AML system might flag it. Georgian authorities can — and do — investigate. The end of that road is a closed account and frozen funds.
  • Do not request a fiat withdrawal directly from an international exchange to your TBC account. Those wires are slow, expensive, and treated with suspicion regardless of how clean your funds are. You’ll either pay steep correspondent-bank fees or sit in a compliance queue. The Georgian banking system is built to keep money flowing within it — work with that, not against it.
  • If you’re moving more than $50,000 through Bitnet, don’t skip the pre-clearance message. One short note to their support before you transfer and the whole thing becomes routine.

The principle is simple: between your crypto wallet and your TBC account, always put either a Georgian-licensed exchange or our vetted Signal group — never a stranger from a foreign platform.
